I was about to post an update on my migration to micro.blog. Then saw a prominent member of the community’s posts exhibit bigotry, followed by criticism being characterized as “performative”.
A large portion of the tech community has a serious hate problem, and a sizable “both sides” problem.
I’ve made the switch from Google Workspaces for my email over to iCloud Custom Domains. Apple’s support was surprisingly fast and helpful, and no more Gemini! I’m not looking forward to Apple potentially forcing Apple Intelligence on me at some point.

One of the wonderful things about having a dog is that he transforms how I’m perceived from “bald middle-aged white guy” to “guy with a cute dog”.
We’re in the sort of dystopia where you can post breathtakingly beautiful photographs on an oligarch’s social network of a fascist’s spaceship breaking up in the wildfire-orange sky over LA burning.
A fun part about how I’m approaching the switch to micro.blog is that I’m working on it in 30 minute chunks here and there. Today I stumbled through how to work with Hugo templates to display categories:

The learning portion of this is that the Hugu/micro.blog templating language is completely unfamiliar to me. Is .Params.categories nil when empty, or is it sometimes an empty array? Can I treat it as nullable, or do I have to check array length? Can I just call delimit without any safety checks?
What I think I can rely on so far:

It was an intimate show, the stage on the same level as the crowd. It felt a lot like the shows I went to when I was in my 20s.

I’m going to try moving my website to micro.blog and configure it to cross-post to Mastodon, Bluesky, and maybe Tumblr? At this point I have no idea how any of this will work or what it will look like. It may end up completely awful and I’ll delete it, but maybe it’ll be good?
I’m taking a throwing class January through March, so gathering ideas for cups and other vessels.
